I had to move my paintings around this morning. Every year, the exhibit evolves as the week progresses. Either because of sales when customers want to take the painting with them right away or because I like to present it differently according to my moods.

I meet wonderful people and some of them come from quite a distance. Today I am expecting a party of five around lunchtime before they move on to other artists of the region.

This is what I call my “Nature Wall”, I am sure you can see why !

Today November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and is the beginning of the 2014 campaign of 12 action days for the elimination of violence against women.

This day, internationally renowned, is supported by the United Nation, whose assembly proclaimed the day on December 17th 1999, mentioning that violence against women is a major obstacle for equality, development and peace. The date of November 25th was selected in memory of the murder of the Mirabal sisters (Patria, Minerva and María Tereza), three Dominican political activists brutally executed in 1960 under the orders of dictator Rafael Trujillo.

The international campaign runs from November 25th to December 10th, which is the International day for Human Rights. However, in Quebec and Canada, we chose December 6th, our National day of remembrance and action on violence against women, to close the annual campaign. This anniversary date of the Montreal Ecole Polytechnique massacre of 14 young women in 1989 was selected by Parliament and flags are flown at half-mast on that day every year on all federal buildings.

The annual campaign of 12 days opposing violence against women is an opportunity to collectively reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women and publicise concrete actions to eliminate this scourge. Since 2008, the Federation of Quebec women (Fédération des Femmes du Québec – FFQ) jointly coordinates this campaign  with many women’s groups and victims of violence and discrimination support groups, including the Federation of women shelters (Fédération des maisons d’hébergement pour femmes – FMHF).

“The 2014 edition of the campaign of 12 days of activism against gender-based violence carries three objectives. First, to remember the sad 25th Anniversary of the massacre at École Polytechnique. Also important is to remember the many battles won by women to assert their rights.  Finally, we need to continue the fight so that the lawful equality becomes a factual reality. ” (http://12joursactioncontrelaviolence.ca/)

Because, for many years now, some instances want to reinforce the false idea that men-women equality is a fait accompli, even mentioning that women are as violent as men, physically, psychologically, verbally, economically and sexually.

We need to remember that violence against women includes an array of violent behaviours, individual or collective, based on gender.  Furthermore, systemic discrimination towards women has been recognized by international authorities. The United Nations’ declaration on the elimination of Violence Against Women asserts that : « violence against women reflects an historically unbalanced power relationship between men and women, which resulted with domination and discrimination practices by the first group at the expense of the second, and is one of the main social mechanism by which women are subordinated to men.» (UN. 1994. Déclaration sur l’élimination de la violence à l’égard des femmes, A/RES/48/104.- Traduction libre de la version française)

From November 26th to 30th 2014, will take place a unique exhibition and sale of artworks, called De la couleur contre la douleur (Color against suffering) and part of the sales will be donated to the Fédération des maisons d’hébergement pour femmes (FMHF). The organism regroups 36 women shelters for those dealing with multiple social issues. For its sixth edition, forty artists will present approximately 500 paintings, all of the same format (10 in x 10 in) and sold at the unique price of 100$ (cash only) at Espace Création Dominique Payette (1101 Victoria ave, in St-Lambert).

This exhibition and sale is organised by the group Artistes de cœur, made up of selected artists, mainly coming from the Montérégie area but also from Montréal, Québec, Sherbrooke and Lanaudière areas, that wish, with this exhibition, to promote engaged art as well as support women and children that live with violence and find refuge in a women’s shelter.

The opening will take place on November 26th from 6 pm to 9 pm.

I have been a bit overwhelmed with everything going on this fall. After the LAA exhibit of the Sept 6th and 7th week-end, I had to go into high gear to finish the 12 pieces I am working on for the November exhibit (details below). I’ll post pictures when the paintings are ready. For today, I thought I would share what is going on this fall.

This week-end I am looking forward t a visit to the sole historical monument in Austin, Qc , a round barn situated on a private lot we will get special access to. Can’t wait to see this intriguing building. We are hoping for lots of sunshine and I am taking along my camera.

From September 2nd to December 1st, I will be exhibiting at along with other artists, at Galerie Sinfonia Di Colori, 87 rue Ste-Anne, Ste-Anne de Bellevue. A vernissage will take place on Friday September 26th from 7:30pm to 9:30 pm.

The Salon d’automne of the Mont St-Hilaire Fine Art Museum in which I participate will start on October 23rd. The theme is “150 variations sur les traces d’Ozias Leduc”. The exhibit will run until November 23rd . All are welcome ! To find out more click here.

I am also participating in the 6th edition of the exhibit called “De la couleur contre la douleur”, staged by the group Artistes de Coeur. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Federation of safe houses for women. Each artist painted 12 to 18 gallery canvases sized 10 X 10 inches. The exhibition takes place from November 26th to 30th. The opening is Wednesday evening (26th) from 6pm to 9pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a reasonably priced artwork while helping a good cause. All are welcome ! To find out more click here.

Also in November (from the 1st to 28th), I will exhibit with the Kirkland Artists Association at the Kirkland Municipal Library, on Hymus blvd. Vernissage takes place on Sunday November 2nd from 1pm to 3:30pm.

The Historic paintings exhibit held to celebrate the 150 th anniversary of the town of Sainte-Marguerite du Lac Masson is still on until December 21st at City Hall (88 Chemin Masson). Special events are also planned for the Journées de la Culture

I still have works exhibiting at Le Bacchus Restaurant, in Sherbrooke.

This is an invitation to come and admire the works of close to 50 professional artists, members of the Lakeshore Association of Artists, on the shore of Lake St-Louis during the week-end of September 6th and 7th, 2014 during the “Art by the lake” event.

I will be happy to welcome you on the beautiful site that is Stewart Hall (a map is attached), where I will be exhibiting some new 2014 works. My site # 41 is located on the higher part of the grounds, near the front entrance and parking area.

A portion of sales will go to the John-Abbott College Foundation to help young artists in need of financial assistance.

The show still goes on even if it rains. The exhibit will then take place inside instead of outside.

Please share this invitation to your family and friends.

I hope to see you there!
