Daily drawing- Week 21

Here are the drawings for the twenty-first week of daily sketching:

141- Chicken (poule et poussin)

142- Le monstre du Memphré

143- A simple poppy

144- Water Lilly

145- A small loose one for today

146- Iteration- Water Lilly 2

147- Ink bottles on my table

During that week, I tried without success a cheaper watercolour paper I had around and I didn’t enjoy it one bit. I will not be using it again.

There is definitely some truth in buying and using the best possible supplies that you can afford. Since I am dabbling in watercolour, I am still looking for the best products.

Someone suggested Stonehenge and said it was really good. I just ordered some 140 lb hot pressed which I hear is smoother and doesn’t buckle. I will be trying this as soon as I get it.

In the meantime, I registered for 30 Faces 30 Days of July and am just starting now. I am hoping it will help with procreate which I find super complicated so far and mostly end-up frustrated with. I will share my progress once I start.

I welcome any suggestions regarding watercolour.

Thank you for reading and stay safe!

  1. I think you will find the 140 lb paper will cockle and the more water you use the more it will cockle. You probably need 300lb paper – that doesnt, but it does absorb the paint – and water. You might get away with 260lb – Ive never used that.

    1. Thank you for the tips Graham . I have never seen 260 lbs in our stores here but will investigate. I bought some 140 hot pressed yesterday but have not tried it yet. Working on digital portraits for the past few days and it is quite time consuming but I like it too 😊
